Helen Grant MP, has welcomed the progress made with the building of a new site for Benenden Church of England Primary School on a visit to the school.
Helen met with Head Teacher Gill Knox, Governors and pupils to discuss progress on the building project. The development is set to increase the capacity of the school by 25% and will also provide a much needed improvement to the school's buildings, bringing them together onto one site and making them fit for the 21st century. It is scheduled for completion before September 2019.
During the visit, students also shared with Helen their innovative methods for recording the progress of the building project. This included a photo album demonstrating the different stages of development.
Speaking of her visit Helen said, 'I have been involved with the campaign to deliver a new school building for Benenden Primary School ever since I was selected as the Parliamentary Candidate for Maidstone in 2008. It is hugely pleasing to see that the ground has now been broken and real progress is being made towards a much desired new school site. It is particularly great to see current students engaging with the project and I am sure their records will stand the test of time.
I want to commend the staff at the school and the wider Benenden community; who have all done sterling work to get to this point. I have assured Gill that I will be continuing to monitor the progress of the building project closely to ensure that the whole community can enjoy the benefits of the new building from September 2019.'
Gill Knox, Head Teacher of Benenden Primary School said, 'Staff and governors were pleased to welcome Helen to Benenden CE Primary where she spoke with School Governor Olly Streeten and I, about the progress of the new school building project. Helen also found time to chat to a group of children about the record they are keeping of the building work.'
