Following the recent election and the State Opening of Parliament, work is now resuming in Westminster with both old and new MPs. Parliament will then go into recess at the end of July – however, that does not mean that my work as an MP will stop.
On the ground in Maidstone and Malling, my team and I will continue working for local constituents. Many of you will not have contacted an MP before, or are now members of this new constituency. As your MP, I can help with matters for which central government is directly responsible. This includes:
1. Tax issues involving the HM Revenue and Customs Department.
2. Issues dealt with by the Department for Work and Pensions such as benefits, pensions and National Insurance.
3. Issues dealt with by the Home Office, such as immigration.
4. Issues dealt with by the Department of Health, such as hospitals and the National Health Service.
5. Issues dealt with by the Department for Education, such as school closures and grants.
Issues with local authority services, such as waste collection, road maintenance, planning, and school and housing allocation are managed by your local council and should be raised with your local Councillors in the first instance. However, I am always happy to write to the Council and ask them to look into a situation or reconsider a particular issue.
There are some issues where I cannot intervene, for example in private disputes with neighbours or employers, or family arguments. I also cannot intervene with decisions made in court or offer legal advice. Where I cannot help directly, I will always try to signpost you to other agencies who may be able to assist you.
I am here to represent the interests and concerns of all of my constituents, whether or not you voted for me at the General Election, so if you have a problem you think I can help with, please do get in touch with me or one of my team in Maidstone and Malling.
