A well known fundraising resident from Fant, known for her annual strawberry teas in support of breast cancer care, took a sabbatical in 2016 to recover from the tragic loss of her partner Martyn Sparrowhawk. His life was taken short without warning by a heart condition and left Moya Sparrowhawk grieving and in difficult circumstances.
Having found her feet in a new home, still in her beloved Fant community, she dug deep and found the motivation to start fundraising again, this time for the British Heart Foundation – for obvious reasons. Attended by the Mayor of Maidstone and local MP Helen Grant, the format this time was a Country Fayre market of stalls all selling goods and produce, from hand-made baby clothes to quince jelly and flapjacks.
Helen said ‘I’ve known Moya since attending her Strawberry Tea in Fant Community Hall 5 years ago, when I first witnessed her remarkable spirit and ability to give to her community. After all she has endured, I applaud her grit and resolve to overcome and continue to give. She has my 100% support’.
Moya said ‘It was lovely to welcome Helen and her husband Simon to my latest event. She has always supported me and it was great to see them again. This time we raised £1200 and my new group is called The Heavenly Heart's. I intend to make it grow and we will be organising more events for sure.
