MP Helen Grant praised the cast and crew of Maidstone Amateur Operatic Society (MAOS) backstage last Friday after attending their latest production at the Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone's Earl Street.
It was also a celebration of 120 years since MAOS first started producing Musicals - the first being 'The Mikado' in 1898 – whilst both Gilbert and Sullivan were still alive.
Helen, who is also President of MAOS, said 'I've had the pleasure of attending the Hazlitt for the MAOS production many times since my first show in 2009 when I enjoyed a fantastic version of 'Anything Goes'. Frank Loesser's musical 'Guys and Dolls' this year was every bit as good, evidenced by fellow audience members very vocal reactions as they left the theatre; 'Brilliant, fun, fantastic, vibrant'. I particularly applaud longstanding Director Tony Cassidy, Musical director John Mills and choreographer Heather Worrall for their immense professionalism and creativity. I hope to back next year for one of my all-time favourites, 'Oliver'.
