Israel / Palestine (November 2024)

I have been contacted by a large number of constituents about this ongoing situation and I appreciate the strength of feeling on this matter.

This is an unimaginably difficult time for people in Israel and Gaza and I can assure you that I want to see an end to the awful violence in the region that is costing so many innocent lives.

There is a desperate need for increased humanitarian support to the region and the focus must be on practical solutions that save lives. I welcome the new Government’s commitment to increasing the amount of aid getting into Gaza, and I will be following developments closely and scrutinising the work of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Ministers to ensure that this commitment is upheld.

There is no easy way to solve the entrenched problems that have existed for a long time in this region. However, it is vital that the recent escalation in conflict we have seen spill across national borders is not encouraged and that work to achieve a peaceful resolution starts as soon as possible. This will involve a strong international effort that I know that UK will want to be a part of.

I will certainly take the views of all my constituents into consideration when discussing this matter further with my colleagues in Parliament.
