Local MP Helen Grant pleased with response from Post Office
The Post Office Ltd have announced that Staplehurst Post Office branch will remain in it's current location. Reacting to the story Helen Grant MP for Maidstone and the Weald, said:
'I am very pleased to learn that the proposal to move Staplehurst Post Office out of the centre of the village has been withdrawn and the Staplehurst branch will continue to operate from its current location.
This is a welcome boost both to the health and prosperity of the local economy and, perhaps more importantly, the vibrancy of the community. The Post Office is an important amenity for residents in the village and it is very welcome that they will continue to be able to access it, along with other facilities, in the centre of the village.
I would like to thank the Post Office Ltd for taking into account the widespread views of local residents and reaching a conclusion on this basis. This outcome demonstrates the power that our communities hold when they come together to make their collective voice heard. I would like to congratulate all of the local people who contributed to the consultation and stood up, with such success, for our vital rural services.
I will, of course, continue to monitor the situation in Staplehurst to ensure that a suitable and sustainable solution is found to secure the long term future of the Post Office in the village and continue to fight to protect such amenities in our much cherished rural communities.'
