Sports Minister and Maidstone MP Helen Grant signals the start of Big Fun Run in Maidstone's Mote Park

Helen Grant MP, Member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald and Minister for Sport, signalled the start of the Big Fun Run around Maidstone's Mote Park on Saturday. The 5K Big Fun Run is one of 17 untimed runs staged within scenic settings throughout the UK from July to October and open to all ages and abilities.

Commenting on the event, Helen said:

"I was delighted to signal the start of the Big Fun Run around Maidstone's Mote Park. It was fantastic to see hundreds of runners, young and old, raising money for a multitude of good causes. The event is all about fun - as the name suggests - whilst keeping active and healthy.

"As a Minister for Sport on a mission to get everyone playing sport and participating in physical activity, I'm proud to champion this all-inclusive initiative."

Notes to editors

  • The course started in the north of Mote Park, east of the lake and a short walk from the indoor bowls club at 11am on Saturday 19th July.
  • Mote Park is a 180 hectare, multi-use public park in Maidstone, Kent. The park provides a picturesque setting in which runners enjoyed a fantastic route through woodland and around the lake. The start/finish area was indicated by two large red inflatable tubes.
  • The Big Fun Run is open to everyone – all ages and abilities - and aims to get people active in a fun and inclusive way whilst raising money for good causes & enjoying the great outdoors.
