MP Delights in Joining Nepalese Diwali Celebrations

Helen Grant MP joined Maidstone Nepalese Women Society for a colourful and vibrant Diwali celebration last week.

The joyous festivities at the Howard De Walden Centre in Maidstone were attended by men, women and children from Maidstone's Nepalese Community. As a centrepiece of the festival of light celebrations Helen lit two large candles to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness.

Guests also enjoyed wonderful traditional foods and there was much jollity amidst several speeches made by leaders and committee members as the community came together to mark this special occasion.

Speaking at the event Helen said, 'Our Nepalese community are a treasured and much loved part of Maidstone's fabric. It was an absolute pleasure to join them for such a wonderful celebration at this special time of year. I want to pay tribute to the fabulous Maidstone Nepalese Women Society for organising such a vibrant celebration and for all they do to support Nepalese women in our community throughout the year.'
