Linton Park School leading the way in modern teaching techniques

Helen Grant MP opens £750k hi-tech learning hub

Maidstone's Linton Park school has opened a 4300ft2 hi tech learning hub at its premises in Boughton Monchelsea. Helen Grant MP was invited to unveil a commemorative plaque and declare the centre officially open before hundreds of delighted parents, pupils and teachers.

Linton Park School has an achievement level 21% ahead of the national average and staff say they believe this is partly due to their use of the Self Directed Learning (SDL) approach to education. It is a process requiring the student to take the initiative to diagnose their learning needs, with or without the assistance of others.

After speaking with students and staff Helen Grant said 'This is leading edge education. Specialist teachers across the country are now able to reach students through 'virtual classroom' facilities now installed at Linton Park. Facilities like this together with the use of Self Directed Learning certainly seems to be paying dividends and is certainly a model for others to consider. I wish the school continued success and will watch progress with great interest.'The new SDL hub is fitted extensively with virtual conferencing, collaborative learning screens and all students in years 9 to 13 are issued their own laptops. On visiting the MP also got a chance to chat with some of the school's politics students, Clayton Woodcock, Barnaby Bell, Harret Mumford and Frazer Dunn.
