It's a dog's life!

Maidstone and the Weald MP Helen Grant was the guest of honour at the Grand Opening of 'Victoria Paws' – a premier Dog Salon based from home in Barming, Maidstone on Friday 22nd April.

Accompanying Helen to the event was her border terrier Charlie who was also Parliamentary Dog of the Year 2010! The event was well attended with more than forty guests arriving throughout the day with offerings of champagne, cakes and party bags. A successful raffle at the event raised nearly £400 for The Dogs Trust.

Victoria Parkin, proprietor of Victoria Paws, provides one-to-one dog grooming services for dogs of all sizes. With a bursary from City and Guilds, she qualified at Level 3 in 2015, and successfully secured a Government Start-Up loan in November 2016. The proceeds of this loan were used to buy specialist equipment such as a state-of-the art pneumatic grooming table and specialist dog hydrobath. Since then, her business has continued to grow from strength to strength.

Victoria said "I always had an interest in dogs and horses, but it wasn't until recently that I considered working with them. Ever since I groomed my first dog, I realised that I had found my vocation in life – and since then I've groomed dozens of different breeds of dog. It made sense to launch a business and go full-time with my passion. I'm really grateful to Helen for taking an interest in my business and joining us to cut our ribbon."

Helen Grant said "Victoria's business is a perfect example of the help out there for budding entrepreneurs. I was delighted to join her in celebrating the opening of her salon and wish her every success in her business venture."
