Helen Opens Maidstone Mencap's Summer Fayre

Helen Grant MP, the Member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald, opened Maidstone Mencap's Summer Fayre on Saturday and accepted a cheque for £4,000 from Cobtree Scottish Country Dance Group on behalf of the charity.

Established in 1946, Mencap is now the UK's leading learning disability charity, working with people with learning disabilities, and their families and carers. Mencap works collaboratively, fighting for equal rights, campaigning for greater opportunities and challenging attitudes and prejudice.

The annual Summer Fayre is Maidstone Mencap's largest event in their fundraising calendar and features an array of stalls, games, and food with the Cobtree Scottish Country Dancers providing their special brand of music and dance entertainment.

As Honorary Vice President of the charity, Helen Grant MP was asked to officially open the fayre and commence the proceedings.

Speaking at the event, Helen said: "I was absolutely delighted to have been asked to open Maidstone Mencap's Summer Fayre again and the weather was very kind. It really is a wonderful event with fun for the whole family and it is always a pleasure to lend my support to such a great cause and a charity that does so much to change the lives of those with learning disabilities".

Ann Tuttle, from the Mencap Fundraising Team said: "We are delighted to have Helen as our Honorary Vice President. Her continued presence at this most important event in our fundraising calendar really helps to raise awareness of our charity and encourages people to come along on the day and perhaps even become one of our volunteers on whom we rely so heavily. We thank Helen for her help in making our presence known to the people of Maidstone and hope to see her at many of our future events".
