Helen Grant Skates in to see Kent Artistic Roller Dance Club

Helen Grant MP, Member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald, visited the Kent Artistic Roller Dance Club on Friday night at the Maidstone YMCA, and met up with skating coach Jackie Terenzi.

Ms Terenzi has coached artistic skating for 35 years, with the Kent Artistic Roller Dance Club itself having produced British champions and international skaters.

Skating regularly in Maidstone, Gillingham, and Strood, the Club caters for all ages and skill sets, and holds an annual Open Artistic Roller Dance Skating competition, whilst also competing nationally and internationally every year. The Club is has many youngsters, from the age of six, learning how to skate at grass roots level.

Speaking at the Club’s session on Friday night, Helen Grant MP said:

“It was wonderful to be able to come in to see one of the Club’s sessions here in Maidstone. I am passionate about getting young people involved in sport and fitness activities, and so thoroughly support the opportunities that the Kent Artistic Roller Dance Club provides.

Seeing so many local youngsters taking part, and having fun, highlights the importance of groups like this, and I can only commend Jackie Terenzi and her team on a wonderful job.”

Ms Terenzi added:

“I was delighted to welcome Helen Grant to our skating club. Our sport is global with European and World Championships, and several of our youngsters have represented Great Britain in these prestigious events, but we have never had the honour of a Sports Minister visiting us. Helen's interest in what we do was really genuine and all of us appreciated that she found time to come and see us, and she even tried on some skates!”
