Helen Grant MP attends Mini World Cup at Maidstone United

On Friday, Helen Grant MP, Member of Parliament for Maidstone and The Weald and Minister for Sport, attended the Mini World Cup at Maidstone United's Gallagher Stadium.

The event, co-ordinated by John Saunders from the Maidstone School Sport Partnership, involved 320 children from schools across the borough representing the 32 teams competing in this year World Cup finals. Greece, represented by Roseacre Junior School, won the cup and were presented with the replica World Cup trophy by Helen following their 1-0 win over Sandling Primary's Chile in the final.

Commenting on the Mini World Cup 2014, Helen said:

"I was delighted to attend the Maidstone Mini World Cup on Friday and present the replica World Cup trophy to Greece. It was a beautiful day and with conditions approaching those that can England can expect in Brazil this summer, I want to congratulate all the children participating for their sterling effort!

It was a great event made all the more possible by the superb 3G pitch at the Gallagher Stadium, capable of hosting regular community initiatives like these. I'd like to pay tribute to all involved in the organisation of the Mini World Cup – a fantastic way of engaging the local community and tremendous fun!" ENDS
