Helen Grant MP, Member of Parliament for Maidstone and the Weald, will be holding a 'Meet Helen' event at the Asda Living store in St Peter Street, Maidstone on Friday 30th May between 10am-11.30am.
Asda invited Helen to the store to learn about their work for the local community and the idea for an in-store MP surgery came up at the meeting.
Asda's ongoing Community Life scheme has seen the supermarket take steps to place its stores at the heart of their local communities, including opening up their doors for use by community groups and fundraising for local good causes.
Commenting on the news, Helen Grant MP said:
"I'm delighted to be launching this drop-in surgery at Asda. My regular surgeries are usually held by appointment in my constituency offices which are a bit out of public view. Asda have offered me a great opportunity to mingle with Maidstone shoppers and chat with them informally about anything they want to raise. There is also a private meeting room where I can discuss any confidential matters with constituents. It is a perfect setting for a community outreach surgery"
Asda store manager Karl Smith was very happy about the arrangement, adding:
"A large part of the Asda Living philosophy is about being much more than a store - it is about being an integral part of the local community. Incorporating our local MP surgery into the store is a great way of extending our service to the needs of the local people. If it proves popular Helen and I have agreed to run it as a regular event" ENDS
