BBC Children in Need's Rickshaw Challenge Comes to Sissinghurst

The BBC's 'One Show' Rickshaw Challenge is a gruelling 423 mile cycle tour from Calais to Salford on a custom-made Rickshaw bike to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

The route included the picturesque village of Sissinghurst, Kent where almost the entire village turned out to cheer on the effort and help raise money for the cause.

Sausages and rolls were donated by the local shops for an irresistible fundraising hot dog stand run by local hostelry the Milk House. Alongside them was a raffle stall with a top prize of half a pig, paradoxically run by vegetarian villager Bex Smith.

Amidst the throng was local MP Helen Grant who said 'Sissinghurst residents never fail to embrace community action whenever the chance arises. The Rickshaw Challenge was just the kind of opportunity they relish and with a sunny Autumn day we were blessed with all the ingredients of a super event. I know a lot of fun was had by all and hundreds of pounds were raised for Children in Need'.

Event organiser Brian Clifford said, 'Sissinghirst is a real village community that always comes together supporting worthwhile projects as our collection of £1650 supporting the Rickshaw Challenge proves.'
