Victory in fuel duty freeze campaign after Autumn Statement

Maidstone and the Weald MP Helen Grant has welcomed Chancellor Philip Hammond's decision to freeze fuel duty in today's Autumn Statement.

It comes after Helen, along with more than 50 other MPs, signed a letter to Mr Hammond urging him to help hard-pressed families and small businesses in places like Maidstone.

The letter was sent by Dover MP Charlie Elphicke, chair of the FairFuelUK parliamentary group, earlier this month. Mrs Grant joined the Dover MP on the steps of the Treasury last Tuesday 15th November 2016 to hand in a petition calling for action on fuel duty.

Reports in national newspapers suggest that this campaign stopped a planned 2p rise in fuel duty.

On hearing the Chancellor's comments Helen said:

"This freeze in fuel duty will help many businesses in my constituency of Maidstone and The Weald and it will give a real boost to drivers locally. I wholeheartedly support this step and I am grateful to the Chancellor for listening to our concerns."
