Maidstone Nepalese Ladies Visit Parliament

Helen Grant MP welcomed representatives from the Maidstone Nepalese Ladies Group to Parliament recently. The group enjoyed a full tour of both Houses of Parliament learning about the history of British Parliament. Afterwards they joined Helen Grant MP for lunch on the House of Commons Terrace which overlooks the river Thames.

Helen's campaign to keep open Invicta Park Barracks featured high on the topics of discussion amongst other local issues. The ladies reiterated that Maidstone is their home and that any move would have a negative impact upon their families and community life.

Speaking after the visit, Helen said: "It was a real delight to welcome the wonderful Nepalese ladies to Parliament. It was an opportunity to update them on my campaign to save Invicta Park Barracks and listen more to their concerns regarding the changes. I am still fully committed to fighting this closure, in my view it is unfair and damaging for our community. I hope the ladies were inspired by their visit to Parliament to take up the mantle either locally or nationally, we certainly need more like them."

Minu Gurung, speaking on behalf of the Maidstone Nepalese Ladies Group said: "Our group would like to thank Helen Grant MP for inviting us to the Houses of Parliament. It was a day to remember. The visit has strengthened the bond between our group and our local MP. We are more than happy to continue working together as we both share a common goal. We hope this relationship will continue and prosper for a long time."

The petition to oppose the closure of Invicta Park Barracks can be signed here: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-maidstone-barracks. Helen plans to present the petition to the Ministry of Defence later this month.
