Helen supports World Cancer Day 2017

Maidstone and the Weald MP Helen Grant was happy to show her support for World Cancer Day 2017 by attending a drop in day held by Cancer Research UK.

Mrs Grant met with representatives from seven of the UK's leading Cancer charities, along with patients, cancer nurses and researchers.

The charities, which include Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer Care, Breast Cancer Now, CLIC Sargent, Anthony Nolan, Bowel Cancer UK and Marie Curie, have joined forces to spread awareness and encourage people to wear unity bands, raising money in the process. The charities believe that by working together they will make a bigger impact in transforming the lives of millions who are affected by cancer.

The Unity Bands are made of two parts, knotted together, to symbolise strength in unity and the power of what can be achieved when people join forces.

The bands are available from each charity on their websites, shops and other retail outlets for a suggested donation of £2. All money raised from the Unity Bands will go towards the charities individual work.

Mrs Grant said: "I am delighted to be able to support this extremely worthy cause and it has been a pleasure to meet some truly inspirational people. It is brilliant to see these organisations coming together to shine a light on this important issue. World Cancer Day is a chance to get involved and transform the lives of millions of people who are affected by cancer. I'm calling on my constituents to join me by wearing a Unity Band or making a donation.

Ed Aspel, Executive Director of Cancer Research UK, said: "On behalf of all the World Cancer Day partners, we're all incredibly excited to be collaborating with each other for such a monumental event. It's the second year World Cancer Day has been combined fundraising and awareness campaign, and this time it's on an even bigger scale. It's fantastic to be part of a partnership that will continue to make an impact in 2017 and beyond.
